About Motivation & Co

Elaine Everett, Founder Motivation & Co
The original idea for Motivation & Co. was developed by Elaine Everett, founder and principal of the business.
In 1997, Elaine’s grandfather was taken ill and ended up living in a care home. Whilst visiting him on a regular basis, Elaine observed that many of the residents appeared to be simply “whiling away the hours” (and the days) with little or nothing to do and that generally there was little in the way of social interaction or stimulation for the residents.
Over a period of months Elaine began to develop the idea of providing a professional service to care homes with the sole objective of helping residents to maintain their physical and mental dexterity and ability by attending regular classes held within the home. She identified a number of special advisors, all of whom are accredited to work with older people for exercise and physiotherapy.
Together they developed a series of exercises and games designed to stimulate and motivate the elderly and those with extreme physical disabilities.
In 1998 Elaine started operating the business in care homes in and around York. Initially Elaine operated the business on a part time basis, prior to the development of the Motivation & Co. franchise system.
Classes last for 1 hour and most classes are carried out between 10.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday.
Research has demonstrated that gentle exercise and stimulation can have dramatic effects on people aged between 70 and 90. It can increase strength and appetite, improve general health as well as increasing memory and self esteem.
We have many examples where our classes have helped particular individuals to retain and even regain levels of movement and dexterity that had previously been lost.
